Following the government’s announcements regarding the national effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19 it is with regret that we will be closing The Albatross Hostel until further notice. All future bookings are therefore cancelled until circumstances allow for our reopening. We deeply apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause, however you will appreciate that we all have a part to play in ensuring the safety and welfare of our staff and customers.
All customer payments already made will be refunded or can be transferred to a rescheduled date. If you have a refund enquiry, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will reply at the earliest opportunity. During this period please bear in mind that if you email, phone or message the site we may not be able respond in our usual timely manner.
For any third party bookings, please contact your booking provider directly who in turn will advise you of the changes to their terms and be able to assist you with your booking.
We are sure you will appreciate that this is an extremely difficult and upsetting time for our staff and we will be working closely with them over the course of these next few weeks and months to support them. We plan to use this period of closure to reflect, come back stronger than ever and ensure we support each other and our community.

The Albatross Backpackers Hostel in Newcastle upon Tyne is the perfect base for all occasions. We have extensive accommodation throughout our historic building over several floors. With over 172 beds, we have all types of rooms available from 12 bedded dormitories for larger groups, and rooms with just 2 beds for smaller parties. On site we have a range of home from home facilities, including a self catering, fully equipped kitchen, pool table and cellar chill out area.
We also have a wide range of facilities in house to make your stay comfortable and convenient, including laundry facilities, inclusive bed linen and towel hire available.
We are located at the top of the Bigg Market on Grainger Street which make us the perfect city centre location for exploring the city or the North East and Northumberland countryside. Newcastle upon Tyne has a vibrant nightlife and a wide range of bars and restaurants. We provide a perfect base for all visits either to the city centre or the North East.
We pride ourselves on providing a safe and welcoming environment for all our visitors. We have CCTV throughout our site and we have a no-lockout / no curfew policy to ensure you have safe fun during your stay with us.
We also have a private safe on site for you to store any valuables during your stay. Your wellbeing and safety is important to us, so anything we can do to enhance your stay, please let us know.
Our backpackers accommodation is within easy walking distance of sporting and musical venues, food markets, restaurants, pubs, night club, art galleries, historical sites, theatres, and all of the great shops our great city has to offer.
